The articles are not lexiled, but the subjects are high interest and will definitely spark some lively conversations and writing. Most appropriate for middle and high school grades
Smithsonian publishes this site that has informational articles for 1 - 12th grade. As with Newsela, each article can be displayed and printed at a variety of lexile levels. This site also has a thought provoking/imagination stretching photo each day which would be fun to use for quick writes or class discussions.

Leveled by grade-band (starting with 3-5) this site has articles and questions on a variety of subjects. Once a class is set up the teacher can even assign articles. There is also a feature that reads the article aloud which is great for those students struggling with the more complex text.
